Premiering soon on HBO

In another collaboration between Kaleida Studio and Mighty Oak, our teams harnessed our creativity and technical expertise to develop graphics and archival materials for the HBO documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes, which opened the Tribeca Festival in 2025. Through a meticulous process, we transformed a wealth of archival content into visually engaging elements that enriched the storytelling experience.

Billy Joel: And So It Goes offers an electrifying and deeply personal portrait of one of New York’s most cherished legends. Directed by Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin, the film weaves together rare archival footage and candid interviews to chronicle Billy Joel's remarkable journey from his humble Long Island roots to international superstardom. The documentary captures not just his musical evolution but also the emotional highs and lows that have shaped his life and career.

Our contributions to the film include:

  • Archival Composition:
We developed striking visual compositions using a diverse array of archival materials, including album covers showcasing the evolution of Billy Joel's music and artistry over the years, newspapers and headlines highlighting significant moments that underline his cultural impact, and show posters and ephemera capturing the essence of his live performances and the connections he has built with fans throughout his career.

  • Animation of Handwritten Lyrics:
Our animation team skillfully brought Billy Joel's handwritten lyrics to life through dynamic animations. This intimate portrayal of his songwriting process not only adds emotional depth to the documentary but also allows viewers to connect with his creative journey in a personal way.

  • Visual Storytelling:
By seamlessly integrating these visual elements, we enhanced the film's narrative, providing context and emotional resonance. Our graphics work complemented the raw, candid interviews and rare footage, ensuring that Billy Joel’s story was not only told but deeply felt by the audience.
